~ Weeds ~

Weed - noun
1. any undesirable or troublesome plant,
esp. one that grows profusely where it is not wanted
-Webster's Dictionary

So, as I mentioned in a previous post - we have a really large lot and most of it has turned into a weed-fest!  This morning, I was out with my son - pulling an area of weeds that had totally overtaken my roses and gardenia bushes.  As I was pulling them, a few thoughts came to me that made a perfect analogy.  (which made for great company in my mind - making this mundane, annoying task, a little better)!

The thought came to me of how we all have weeds in our life - in one form or another, that can take over the good things  (as the weeds took over the beautiful flowers), faster than we realize.
They might be habits we need to change.  Our attitude.  Relationships. The need to forgive someone. etc. etc. etc.   And then the other thought came to me, that if the weeds I was pulling are not taken from the root, they will grow back.  It takes more effort pulling from the root ... but in the long run - the weed is gone.

Finally, I was trying to figure out some positive aspect of this whole weed thing and this last thought came to me.  We will all have weeds at one time or another in our life that we need to get rid of.  It's a process and sometimes take quite awhile to do it.  But just as I was pulling these weeds this morning - struggling - using both hands on some ... raking, grooming ... I realized that by doing this makes me stronger!  And the outcome of beautiful flowers free from the choking of weeds is such a better sight to see and the grand reward!

So, here's to pulling your weeds today - whatever they may be.  Figure out what they are and start from the root.  Be patient and don't pull too fast - because as I found out this morning by doing that, sometimes the root doesn't come up.  If I'm patient and pull slower, the root will come.  And yes, sometimes, it takes both hands.  Effort = Reward!

~ "RAK" ~

"Each smallest act of kindness
reverberates across great distances and spans of time,
affecting lives unknown to the one whose generous spirit
was the source of this good echo, because kindness is passed on and grows each time it’s passed,
until a simple courtesy becomes an act of selfless courage
years later and far away.”
~ Dean Koontz

There have been so many countless moments in my life where I have been the recipient of RAK (random acts of kindness).  From friends, family even strangers.  Simple as having a door opened to me - or even more depth of having meals brought in when I've been really sick - or my house cleaned by loving hands . . . the list is endless.  I have a difficult time accepting such abundant kindnesses at times, I would rather be the giver.  But I do realize that this life is about giving as well as taking, and when this happens both parties are blessed for the richer.

What kindnesses has someone given you in your life?  Even if it is just a listening ear, or simply knowing that someone is always there for you . . . being kind and receiving it, is like a Light in the darkness.  And being kind - a smile, wink, hug, kind words, deeds . . . doesn't cost a thing - yet brings the most joy - full circle.
Let us be kind today - this Monday . . . a fresh new start of the week.  Dig deep and see how many Random Acts of Kindness we can bestow to everyone we come in contact with - starting with the most important people in your life whoever they may be.  Share your kindness today : )

p.s..... Cheers to being kind!

~ Would You Go? ~

"Eddie Would Go"

There is a famous story in Hawaii about a young man named Eddie Aikau.  Those who know of him, know his story and uphold the deepest respect for him and what he did.

He was known not only as a good surfer but a good lifeguard as well. Not one life was lost while he served as lifeguard of Waimea Bay, as he braved waves that often reached 30 feet high or more.
In 1971, he was named Lifeguard of the Year.

In 1978, the Polynesian Voyaging Society was seeking volunteers for a 30-day, 2,500-mile journey to follow the ancient route of the Polynesian migration between the Hawaiian and Tahitian island chains. At 31 years of age, Eddie joined the voyage as a crew member. The Hokule'a left the Hawaiian islands on March 16, 1978. The double-hulled voyaging canoe developed a leak in one of the hulls and later capsized about twelve miles South of the island of Molokai. In an attempt to get help, Eddie paddled toward Lanai on his surfboard. Although the rest of the crew was later rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard, Eddie was never seen again. The ensuing search for Eddie was the largest air-sea search in Hawaii history.  The last person lifeguard Eddie Aikau rescued at Waimea Bay was a young TV producer named John Orland, who had just wrapped up production on a TV pilot called the "Hawaii Experience," starring Bob Crane from Hogan's Heroes. He was rescued on February 19, 1978, less than a month before Eddie Aikau was lost at sea.

Every year In Eddie's honor, Hawaii holds a ceremony - and if the waves are big enough - "The Eddie" - a Big Wave Invitational surf competition, in Memory of Eddie Aikau at Waimea Bay.
The tournament has only been held eight times, due to a precondition that open-ocean swells reach a minimum of 20 feet (this translates to a wave face height of over 30 feet).  The most recent tournament was in December 2009, when waves in the bay reached 30 to 50 feet high!!  The contest only invites 28 big-wave riders to participate in two rounds of competition. The event does not allow the use of jet skis to tow surfers into the waves.

There are signs, t-shirts, bumper stickers everywhere in Hawaii that read: "Eddie Would Go."
I have a bumper sticker on my car that says: "Mom Would Go" which my son and hubby brought back from an "all-guys" Hawaii surf trip a couple of years ago.  Every time I read that, it really gives me motiviation that yes - "I Would Go" .... "Go where?" someone once asked me ... and I answered: "Anywhere I am needed as a Mom."

I love the story of Eddie.  He truly is a hero to so many.  And being in a surf family we see it more than most people do.  His example is like a silent "standard" for all the surf buddies my hubby and son know and get to surf with each Saturday morning.  Eddie didn't have to go - but he did.  A great legend he left behind in helping so many.

Would you go? Not in the sense that Eddie did battling huge waves - but when the call is heeded for your help ... would you go?  I believe as human beings we all would go.  And because we are human we have a heart that possesses the innate desire to help, serve and love each other - even to a stranger wouldn't you agree?  There are countless examples all around us - all around the world of ordinary people helping people in extraordinary ways.  Look at Haiti right now with all of the thousands of volunteers who chose to go and "battle the waves" in a sense.  One doesn't even have to go outside of their home.  How would you "go" within the walls of your own home today?

I believe Albert Einstein sums this up perfectly:

"Only a life lived in the service to others is worth living."

Have a wonderful day ... wherever you "go."
Happy "Aloha Friday!"

~ The Gift of Work ~

"Any process you are going through will get tougher before it gets easier.
That's what makes learning a gift.
Even though pain is your teacher."
- Red Stephens - The Ultimate Gift

So, this summer with school out and my kids wanting to do absolutely nothing because "it's summer" ... I have developed something a little different this year.  My son, since Monday has woken up at 7:00 am and works out in the yard (we have a ridiculously large lot that has turned into a weed-fest in some of the sections), raking - pulling - grooming the landscape.  If he wants to do something - whatever it may be for the day - he has to earn it first by working.  My daughter, same thing.  She has indoor chores to do before "hanging out" with all her friends.

This morning while walking my most wonderful dog Lucky thru the meadow, I couldn't help but think about the movie:
"The Ultimate Gift."  We love that movie.  It's one of our family favorites.  Very touching, and life-learning as well.  Anyway - one of the "gifts" the character has to learn is the "gift of work."  It made me think of what my son is doing each day - hopefully learning this important attribute in life ... work.

I've listed below all of the gifts this movie teaches.  Read thru each one.  Which one catches your attention the most?  Whatever it is ... take that one as a challenge this day - week - month.  There's never any harm in learning something new.  Especially if it helps us grow and become just that much better!  : )

Here's to "gift's" today!  Now go and get that rake and shovel and get to work!! : )

The Twelve Gifts

The Gift of Work

The Gift of Problems

The Gift of Friends

The Gift of Giving

The Gift of Gratitude

The Gift of Family

The Gift of Learning

The Gift of Money

The Gift of Laughter

The Gift of a Day

The Gift of Dreams

The Gift of Love (which leads to the Ultimate Gift)

~ Summer! ~

"There shall be eternal summer in the grateful heart."
~Celia Thaxter

Ahhhh .... Summer.  Warmer days.  Endless adventures.  Long shadows in the afternoon glow of the "golden hour."  Joyful children at play.  The world is awake and alive! 'Tis magical indeed.

And just for your curious mind - here's a little something about summer.
And below are the lyrics to one of my favorite children's songs ... enjoy!  : )

"Oh, what do you do in the summertime, when all the world is green?
Do you fish in a stream, or lazily dream on the banks as the clouds go by?
Is that what you do? So do I!

Oh, what do you do in the summertime, when all the world is green?
Do you swim in a pool, to keep yourself cool, or swing in a tree up high?
Is that what you do? So do I!

Oh, what do you do in the summertime, when all the world is green?
Do you march in parades, or drink lemonades, or count all the stars in the sky?
Is that what you do? So do I!"

"Deep summer is when laziness finds respectability."
 ~Sam Keen

And a little melody to get you in the spirit of Summer! ☼

~ Midsummer ~

“This is very midsummer madness”
-William Shakespeare

The celebration of Midsummer's Eve (the day before summer solstice) was from ancient times linked to the summer solstice. People believed that mid-summer plants, especially Calendula, had miraculous healing powers and they therefore picked them on this night. Bonfires were lit to protect against evil spirits which were believed to roam freely when the sun was turning southwards again.

In Finland, Midsummer morning dew was collected from leaves and flowers for its magical healing properties - especially if the dew was gently dabbed on the face, it would magically keep a woman's face staying young forever!

Interesting history from various countries including the U.S. is fun to read!

Enjoy Summer Solstice!  Welcome the warmth and magic of summer!!

~ Plate Lunch! ~

In celebration of "Aloha Friday" - I bring to you one of the delicacies Hawaii is most known and famous for:
"Plate Lunch!"

It's a - shall we say - staple meal over there.  And can be found around every corner, at ever store - along every shack on all the streets - in the malls - and best of all ... on the delicious "shrimp trucks!"

The first picture posted is my hubby's plate from our family reunion b-b-q we attended...and the bottom 2 picture's are from the before mentioned shrimp truck along "Kam Hwy."
The one in the middle is their famous garlic shrimp plate and the one on the bottom is their famous coconut shrimp.  Just looking at these pictures again starts my mouth watering - and my stomach craving for just one more delicious bite!  Words can't describe how tasty it was. : )

For the history of plate lunch you can click here
**Caution ... while reading, mouth may start watering and stomach growling!**  : )

So, have a wonderful "Aloha Friday" - and get out and have some plate lunch bruddah!  It's "da kine!"

Aloooooooooooooooooha!! : )

~ Adventure! ~

"Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing at all."
- Helen Keller

As a child I was pretty shy, but somewhat fearless as well.  I know it doesn't sound like the two can co-exist, but in me it did.  I was shy in the sense of speaking out in public - shy in confidence amongst my "super cool" peers - and didn't like to have too much attention drawn to myself.  My face would flame up (heat and all - and still does at times),  beet red, instantly if I felt any eyes looking at me. I know, I know - those who are reading this and who know me now, are probably shaking their heads and laughing with disbelief ... but one needs to remember - every caterpillar must go thru its cocoon stage to emerge as a butterfly - a changed being ... yes?
Anyway, back to my story about the fearless part.  This is where the adventures of my life have made me pretty much who I am today!  : )

Beginning young - I have truly been blessed to explore and travel to many places ... some on the other side of the world.  Europe at age 11 - with my dad - opened my eyes and soul, to sites I never imagined possible.  Walking in the majesty of castles - within sacred towering cathedrals - in the quiet beauty of "The Hills Are Alive" grassy hill walked upon - cobblestone streets - food markets - driving thru the countryside eating the freshest strawberries ever created ... the list goes on...
The adventure of testing my palate with such delicacy's as "Escargot" (snail's smothered in butter-garlic sauce, totally devine!) ... Orange Marmalade spread on warm croissant rolls ... attempting to eat an entire fish (Sole) from head to tail that covered my entire plate ... so many different taste's and smells that did not exist back home.
The #1 rule my dad would say is: "Just try it once.  If you don't like it you don't have to eat it." Well, sounded fair and kind of like a challenge - which lit me up even more.  I found that so many things were completely enjoyable.  And if I hadn't taken the daring chance of tasting snails baked in goodness, I would have never known how much I liked it ... for the rest of my life.  I also have that #1 rule with my kids - and even those who aren't my kids - who won't dare to try anything!

Further still.  I became a certified scuba diver at the young age of 18, and since then have explored the most extraordinary world of the sea.  I've dived with - fed and held sharks - eels and other sea life.  Played in the jovial company of seals.  Been in an entirely different existence on night dives - ship wrecks - plane wrecks - "current diving" along the most brilliant underwater mountains blanketed with rainbow colored coral and sea anenome ever imagined.  I've hung over cliffs - suspended floating - gazing into the depths of the abyss.  Cave diving, cold water, warm water, boat dives, beach dives, week long dive trips, Hawaii, Cozumel, Cayman, Cancun ... all along the coast of California.
It has been quite the adventure I must truly say.  And has blessed me with such a respect and persective of a whole other existence of life.

I've been parasailing a few times, river rafting, camped out underneath the stars countless times, climbed steep cliffs, mountains, spur-of-the-moment trips, waterskiing, bungee flying (different from jumping).  Have taken a 250 foot plunge straight into a hole in the earth going over 80 mph on crazy roller coaster rides...So many adventures for sure.

I can honestly say - these "daring adventures" have been quite the fun ride in my life. And I continue to experience new one's at every level - every day, that fill my spirit.
Though my adventure's now, have somewhat lessened in degree of - extreme ... but just as meaningful - perhaps more - as I focus on adventures with my kids and family - and the endeavours of creating a legacy thru writing, photography, music, my experiences, continued discoveries ... love, kindness, sincerity ... all of these compose my own masterpiece.  It's still daring, and adventurous to say the least ... just on another level sort of speak..

What daring adventure's have you experienced in your life?  And if not - what is holding you back of enjoying, and experiencing so much more of life in your life?  Fear? Lack of confidence?  There is so much abundance that life holds for us, if we just take advantage of it.  So many things just waiting to be discovered and lived.  You don't have to go bungee jumping, or parasailing to have an adventure.  It can be as simple as bringing your life-long dreams to fruition.  Or the adventure of creating something new.  Beginning a new hobby ... Life is waiting for us to open the sails and experience the ride.

Just remember. Fear doesn't naturally "exist."  It is WE who create it.  It is we who bring it into our world as reality, that stops our progression.  Don't yield to it.  And as my 8 year-old self told me (see previous post) ... "Don't let fear stop you from adventures in life."

The quote mentioned at the beginning, is framed on one of my walls.  I look at it often, and truly  believe that it helps me (sub-consciously), in keeping adventures alive in my life!   Plan an adventure today for yourself!  You know - that one you have been wanting to do forever?

And if Helen Keller - who was completely blind, deaf and mute - can leave this world with such a powerful quote .... don't you think that YOU can honor it and do what you've been putting off for much too long?
Do it!

Happy Trails!  Now where did I put my mask and snorkle? ....
: )

~ The Masters Touch ~

I love this story!  It's truly motivating and uplifting in any of life's circumstances.
And as I tell my piano students all the time ....
"Play On!"

Wishing to encourage her young son's progress on the piano, a mother took her boy to a Paderewski concert.

After they were seated, the mother spotted a friend in the audience and walked down the aisle to greet her. Seizing the opportunity to explore the wonders of the concert hall, the little boy rose and eventually explored his way through a door marked "NO ADMITTANCE."

When the house lights dimmed and the concert was about to begin, the mother returned to her seat and discovered that the child was missing. Suddenly, the curtains parted and spotlights focused on the impressive Steinway on stage. In horror, the mother saw her little boy sitting at the keyboard, innocently picking out "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star."

At that moment, the great piano master made his entrance, quickly moved to the piano and whispered in the boy's ear, "Don't quit. Keep playing." Then, leaning over, Paderewski reached down with his left hand and began filling in the bass part. Soon his right arm reached around to the other side of the child and he added a running obbligato.

Together, the old master and the young novice transformed a frightening situation into a wonderfully creative, experience. And the audience was mesmerized.

The lesson: "Whatever our situation in life and history -- however outrageous, however desperate, God is whispering deep within our beings, don't ever quit."

Here's to never quitting on anything in life!!  Play on! : )

p.s ... A little inspiration for you today! ... And another!  haha!!
THIS is why I -  and my students -  LOVE to keep playing and learning!
The incredible and amazing Jon Schmidt ... Enjoyyyyyyyy!!  : )

~ Beautiful Life ~

"Those who have eyes to see
see a beautiful life."
~ Lisa May : )

A few years back, my hubby and I had the opportunity to go to a tiny island called Tavarua (off of Fiji) with a group of other people, for a "surfing trip."  The wives were invited to come along, which I thought was very kind to invite us - since it was a guy surfing trip!  : )  Each day, we watched as our men paddled fearlessly out into the world of "epic" waves, surfing world-known breaks such as "Restaurants" and "Cloud Break" ... catching wave after wave - anticipating the perfect "ride."  And as they did, us women enjoyed this little island - relaxing, napping, swimming, sun bathing, reading ... eating!

The island of Tavarua is very small.  It consist's of a main eating area, pool and spa, an office (with one computer that is limited to internet service) a very small boutique, cozy little bungalow's, and a volleyball court.  On the island is a tiny, tiny village for the "locals" of this 29 acres-in-area island.  The life lived here is quite simple.  They pretty much live off the land.  There is no traffic, (except in the line-up out on the waves of anxious surfers) - no television blaring 24-7, no malls, definitely vacant of rows of restaurants, no salons, the day's news is the "catch of the day" (both fishing and surfing), and the transportation provided to go "island hopping" is a little wooden trolling boat. Very simple indeed ... you get the idea.

The one thing that impressed me entirely, was the attitude of the people there.  Every morning, our alarm clock was to that of laughter outside our bungalow window, as these people constantly laughed - sporting smiles bigger than anything I had ever seen before.  They were always upbeat no matter what they were doing - even if it was sweeping the walkways of debris, or washing the dishes, or preparing meals.  Their smiles would become even bigger upon seeing us, as they happily shouted with a laughing voice "Bula-Bula" (hello) with arms stretched out as they always had a hug - and I mean a hug!!  Bear hug is more like it...and continued to offer one each time we would pass by them.  Singing together was something else they constantly did - and again with whatever they were doing.  Each night, they would entertain us with their culture of singing and dancing ... which was endlessly accompanied with smiling and laughing as well.

I often pondered that week while we were there, how happy these people were - and "how" they could be so happy with so little - well, in the sense that I had become accustomed to.
They lived life.  They saw a beautiful life before them every day.
I sometimes justified their joyous behavior to living on this paradisiacal island ... but then realized that no, even living in paradise can wear off and get old just like anywhere else.
It was their spirit.  Their unity with each other.  Their expression of Love.  Their attitude.  Their choice of "seeing" life, and making it a beautiful one indeed.

Just look around you.  No matter where you are, no matter what is happening in your own world - life IS beautiful.  Not only in the scenery of every little miracle of the seasons every single day - but beautiful in the sense of existing.  In the sense of being unified with family, friends, kind people, the smile of a stranger...your connection with God.  In the sense of opportunities, our
God-given talents, music, photography, food, emotions, laughter, dancing, singing ...
The list is infinite.  And even in tough times - life remains beautiful.  This is where the "eyes" must "see" a little deeper.

I absolutely LOVE this video.  It lifts my spirits every single time I hear and watch it, even when I am down it magically helps me see again.  It is truly a wonderful reminder that yes -
"It is a beautiful life - a beautiful world ... and it's a beautiful time to be here."

Here's to "seeing" your beautiful life today.  And if you don't ... you're not really looking, because it is all around you.
Enjoy this day.  And live your beautiful life.

p.s....By the way - Tavarua island is in the shape of a heart.  Hmmmm ... I wonder if that's why the people are so loving??!!  : )

~ Be Still And Know ~

“Be still and know that I am God”
-Psalm 46:10

In this chaotic busy crazy world - take the time today in your little corner of the world - to quiet things down and just be still - for a moment.  Know that there is a loving Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ in the heavens looking down upon you - blessing and loving you.

~ Difference ~

"Be the ONE
who makes a difference"

I was reminded of the poem below the other day.
You've probably read it before - but just in case you haven't, here it is for you.

I've been thinking about this for the past couple of days and how I can make a difference in the world - my little corner of the world - my family, friends, loved ones ... strangers.  Even if it is just one little thing at a time.  I've realized that all it takes is awareness of others needs - and action!  Nothing will happen if I don't put my "good intentions" into action.

Here's to making a difference today.  Little by little.  Touching one soul at a time.

The Starfish

An old man was walking down the beach just before dawn. In the distance he saw a young man picking up stranded starfish and throwing them back into the sea. As the old man approached the young man, he asked; "Why do you spend so much energy doing what seems to be a waste of time?"

The young man explained that the stranded starfish would die if left in the morning sun. "But there must be thousands of beaches and millions of starfish, exclaimed the old man. "How can your efforts make any difference?" The young man looked down at the small starfish in his hand and as he threw it to safety in the sea, he said;

"It makes a difference to this one!"

~ "IZ" ~

In honor of "Aloha Friday" I bring you the sweet melodies of Israel Kamakawiwo' ole "IZ" for short.  He is a family favorite and always brings us together, beginning from the first note.

One of his most famous songs is his beautiful rendition on the ukulele of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World."

His voice is one of the most calming sounds you'll ever hear.  Another favorite is "White Sandy Beach" of which I made a video of from the pictures I took from our 3 - year in the making, family reunion we were a part of in July last year.

Enjoy this beautiful music and have an "ono" "Aloha Friday."

~ Should Of, Would Of, Could Of ~

“Live each season as it passes;
breathe the air,
drink the drink,
taste the fruit,
and resign yourself to the influences of each.”
- Henry David Thoreau

My dear friend sent me the inspiring message below and I wanted to share with all of you my dear friends!  Enjoy!!  : )

Too many people put off something that brings them joy just because they haven't thought about it, don't have it on their schedule, didn't know it was coming or are too rigid to depart from their routine.
I got to thinking one day about all those people on the Titanic who passed up dessert at dinner that fateful night in an effort to cut back. From then on, I've tried to be a little more flexible.

How many women out there will eat at home because their husband didn't suggest going out to dinner until after something had been thawed? Does the word 'refrigeration' mean nothing to you?

How often have your kids dropped in to talk and sat in silence while you watched 'Jeopardy' on television?

I cannot count the times I called my sister and said , 'How about going to lunch in a half hour?' She would gas up and stammer, 'I can't. I have clothes on the line. My hair is dirty. I wish I had known yesterday, I had a late breakfast, It looks like rain' And my personal favorite: 'It's Monday.' She died a few years ago. We never did have lunch together.

Because Americans cram so much into their lives, we tend to schedule our headaches.. We live on a sparse diet of promises we make to ourselves when all the conditions are perfect!

We'll go back and visit the grandparents when we get Steve toilet-trained. We'll entertain when we replace the living-room carpet. We'll go on a second honeymoon when we get two more kids out of college.

Life has a way of accelerating as we get older. The days get shorter, and the list of promises to ourselves gets longer. One morning, we awaken, and all we have to show for our lives is a litany of 'I'm going to,' 'I plan on,' and 'Someday, when things are settled down a bit.'

When anyone calls my 'seize the moment' friend, she is open to adventure and available for trips. She keeps an open mind on new ideas. Her enthusiasm for life is contagious. You talk with her for five minutes, and you're ready to trade your bad feet for a pair of Rollerblades and skip an elevator for a bungee cord.

My lips have not touched ice cream in 10 years. I love ice cream. It's just that I might as well apply it directly to my stomach with a spatula and eliminate the digestive process. The other day, I stopped the car and bought a triple-decker. If my car had hit an iceberg on the way home, I would have died happy.

Now...go on and have a nice day. Do something you WANT to...not something on your SHOULD DO list. If you were going to die soon and had only one phone call you could make, who would you call and what would you say? And why are you waiting?

Make sure you read this to the end; you will understand why I sent this to you.

Have you ever watched kids playing on a merry go round or listened to the rain lapping on the ground? Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight or gazed at the sun into the fading night? Do you run through each day on the fly? When you ask 'How are you?' Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done, do you lie in your bed with the next hundred chores running through your head? Ever told your child, 'We'll do it tomorrow.' And in your haste, not see his sorrow? Ever lost touch? Let a good friendship die? Just call to say 'Hi'?

When you worry and hurry through your day, it is like an unopened gift....Thrown away.... Life is not a race. Take it slower. Hear the music before the song is over. ♫

~ What I Know ~

"Even if you are a minority of one,
the truth is the truth."
- Gandhi

Yesterday, my blog made it to 3,000 views!!!  Never in my wildest dreams, did I imagine that by simply posting daily - every day thoughts - that it would even make it to 1,000 views ... let alone 3,000!!!  I truly feel honored and humbled all at the same time.  I am so grateful for all of YOU - my readers - who constantly support, comment and encourage me on - every day to continue.

So, I asked the 3,000th viewer what he would want me to post for today, and his answer was: "to bless us with what you know to be true."  So - today's post is just that.  What I know to be true. (don't know if it will "bless you" like it does me, but hopefully it might touch you somehow).

I've been pondering this ever since, and here is a list of what I know to be true.  Before you read on - remember that this is what I know.  That's the beauty of it.  The freedom right here on my blog to share what I know, without any apologies given - or judgments received.  Even if I am the "minority of one" - these are my truth's.  As you read them - think of what you know to be true for yourself.  I would love to hear from YOU!! : )

♥  I know first and foremost - that there is a divine, intelligent, loving God - a Father in heaven - who custom created each of us.  With all of our unique talents, gifts, abilities, bodies - all of it.  Who loves me - you - everyone -  unconditionally and who knows us individually - by name.  I also know that He created the heavens and the universe - all the planets and everything in them.  Animals, insects, the seasons, cells, the perfect ebb and flow of creation.  How could something so grand and marvelous be created and operate perfectly by happenstance or coincidence?  Take science and religion out, and add logic ... it's in its perfect line of organized creation, by a Masterhand.

♥ I know that Jesus Christ came to the earth to fulfill the purpose of being the perfect example of unconditional love, charity, kindness, teacher, and ultimate sacrifice of His life for mine - all of ours - so that one day - we may have eternal life.  It has been said that if there was only 1 person on the earth, He still would have sacrificed His life.  I know that if I live my life as I should - trying every day through all of my falling down and picking myself back up - that I ... like everyone ... have the opportunity to partake of this most amazing gift of the Atonement.  He is my brother, friend ... my Savior.

♥  I know the power and gift of the spirit of God - or the Holy Ghost - is real and true.  It is available to all mankind - and its soul purpose is to reveal truth, give guidance, protection and personal manifistation, inspiration and revelation.  I have felt and continue to feel its companionship many times in my life.

♥  I know that by really studying, pondering, praying, meditating upon the scriptures - the word of God - I have come to know the above mentioned, day by day.  Personally, spiritually and without a doubt.

♥  I know that Gratitude can create miracles.  That it's one of the highest energies next to love.  It has brought to my life - joy, postitivity, simplicity, abundance, love, awareness, fullness, and divinity.  I know that when I'm in the "attitude of gratitude" - I am in a place of contentment and at peace, totally immersed within my life ... not wanting anything more, because everything I have and need is already before me.  Gratitude honestly is the pathway to long lasting happiness.  The secret is to simply open your eyes to the every day little miracles all around us and simply be grateful for them.  My gratitude journals are some of my dearest treasures I have.

♥  I know that prayer also creates miracles.  I've seen it and have also been the recipiant of its power.  I also know that every prayer is answered ... some immediately ... some years later - but they always are answered.

♥  I know that Faith has carried me through the many challenges and trials in my life.  And that when I am going through challenges and trials, my mantra becomes:
"O ye of little faith, wherefore did you doubt?"
I know that faith also has power beyond our comprehension.  And that when I have faith - it replaces my fears, because the two cannont coexist.  That by faith miracles happen.  And it is when I finally surrender my will and thoughts and have faith, that mighty moments happen.

♥  I know without a doubt, that I am not perfect.  That I have many faults, that I am stubborn at times, that I don't know the answers to everything in life.  That I fall and have to pick myself up again.  But, by not being perfect - I still try to be a good person.  I will never be perfect - but I know if I do the best I can do in all areas of my life, that will replace my imperfections a little bit.  : )

♥  I know that humor and laughter is honestly the best medicine ever.  It can break the ice of tension within seconds and heal contention, anger, hatred, frustration, and extreme stress within moments.  It has also been proven to be the #1 aid for serious illnesses and diseases.  Even smiling lights up the soul.  Try it - every day.  Even when you don't feel like it!  : )

♥  I know that when I am helping others, and being in the service of someone else - I am not only serving them, but serving God as well.  And that by doing so, an added bonus is that I am filled with love and joy by simply extending a helping hand.  Isn't it amazing how that version of the circle of life happens?!!
I've always loved Mother Teresa's example of service and her quotes.  This one sums up service perfectly:
"Love cannot remain by itself -- it has no meaning.  Love has to be put into action, and that action is service."

♥  I know that there are truths in many things in life, and that all good things are OF and come from God.

♥  I know that I am a daughter of a loving God.  I know where I am going, and where I came from.  I know that my family is eternal.

♥  I know that speaking kind words, brings kind echo's.  That by complimenting with sincerity from the heart - to anyone - brings again, full circle, joy on each end.

♥  I know that positive thoughts and attitude, creates a positive life.  And so does the opposite option.  So why would anyone "choose" to bring negativity into their life?  Both are a choice.  I might as well choose to be happy - right?! : )

♥  I know that pride - which is the complete opposite of humility - can destroy lives, and has destroyed civilizations repeatedly throughout history.

♥  I know that Love also has amazing power and that when I see others through the eyes of God - I can also love them ... uncondtionally.

♥  I know that to everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heavens.  That when I become impatient, anxious, worried ... all I have to do is remember and accept my "season."  Sometimes it's really difficult - but there again, if I surrender and have faith - everything always works out.

♥  I know that Virtue is the most powerful and beautiful makeup for the body - inside and out.

♥  I know that without my family - I would be truly empty.  They are everything, and more, to me.

♥  I know that my amazing friends bring such a rewarding gift of friendship to my life.  I am truly blessed.

♥  I know that music has power beyond comprehension.  And that sometimes it is the only thing that can touch and heal the deepest depths of the sea within the very core us.  It is a universal language that speaks with precise divine understanding, to each human being.

♥  I know that if I stay healthy - working out, eating good/healthy foods - that it truly keeps me healthy, feeling wonderful and gives me energy in all areas of my life, not just physically.

♥  And I know that if I don't end my list right now - I will be late for my most favorite class at the gym!!

There you have it.  This list is really endless ... but I topped it with my priority "what I know's."  I would love to hear back from you, of what your own truths are.  I love shares - as I grow and learn so much from them.  They truly touch my heart!

Here's to your own truth's today!

~ Determination ~

“Every accomplishment starts with the decision to TRY.”

We went to Buena Vista Lake (located just out of Bakersfield, CA) for Memorial wknd.  It's been a family tradition on my hubby's side for years and years to gather everyone together.  It's great fun  - we ride the Sea-Doo's - play games - volleyball - make s'mores - eat lots of food (isn't that what vacationing is all about?!!) - play in the water - lay out - and sleep under the stars in our tent.  This year we bought a brand new tent after having the same army-green archaic tent since we've been married.  We also purchased 2 queen size air mattresses - wow..... pure luxury!

Well, I'm going to back up a little in my story I'm about to tell you - to the packing up the car part.  Since hubby was @ work, the opportune task fell upon me to load everything up.  Which included a new "cargo mesh carrier" that went on top of the car.  I don't have a car rack on top, so I had to get really creative on how I was going to secure it all down.  I decided to put the tent, the air mattresses, our ski vest's, and towels on top.  I got everything loaded up on top and zipped in the fabric cargo carrier and then went into my "creative - thinking out of the box" mode of how I was going to secure it all down.  However, I did have one huge obstacle in my way while figuring out how it would all work ... my wonderful 17 year old son - sitting inside the garage on a chair the entire time - telling me how, what I was doing, wouldn't work!!!  Well - to be honest, that fueled my fire of determination even more!!  I layed the bungee mesh over the carrier, brought each 4 corners underneath and into the inside roof of my car - then attached each corner cross-wise with "extra duty" bungee cords.  And then finished it off by strapping two of our surf board cinch straps across the entire thing - and again into the roof of the inside of the car.  And guess what?!!  Voila!  It WORKED!  It stayed in place and didn't move a hair to the lake and back home - 3 1/2 hours total each way.  And all the while that voice - telling me it wouldn't work ... finally quieted down when indeed he did see that it worked!

I have thought of that since.  And how we don't necessarily have literal outside voices telling us it won't work - but sometimes our own voices.  I told my daughter after this experience, to never let anything get in her way of making something work.  She witnessed this whole endevour as she herself was helping me, as I was giving her directions as they were coming to me.  It was a great lesson for all of us individually - for our own purpose.  There is
A L W A Y S     a way to make something work!  There is always something lying around - whether physically or mentally - that you can find to use, to make it work.  Always!
Don't ever give up.
Keep that determination alive and you will accomplish whatever it is that you are out to do!!
